A special message ...

A sad report on the news today: a roadside bomb took four more American lives in Iraq, bringing the total number of deaths in that conflict to 4,000.
Searching for a total of the war's wounded, I found only estimates, which include everything from a shrapnel wound to severed limbs but often do not include damage to the psyche.
But whether it’s 23,000 or 30,000 or more, each one is an awful totality.
To those who have passed: Rest in peace, brothers and sisters.
To those bearing the scars and suffering the anguish of man’s inhumanity to man: May your soul find healing, peace and laughter.
To all of them, and to those who have served or are serving in that war-torn country: May the light of your sacrifices illuminate the way to a peaceful world.
